In this context Vinitaly also becomes the ideal setting to present the first results of a year of intense work for the ProMed project».

Nine wines will be presented during the event in Verona, four whites and five reds, all produced from international and native grapes grown in the islands of Malta and Gozo. For the occasion representatives of Vitimalta, the Maltese producer organization, will be present.
The head of VitiMalta Gerald Vella said «Our organization is composed of more than 300 growers, representing 90% of producers in the islands of Malta and Gozo. This is our first presence at a major event such as Vinitaly, and we are very proud to present our wines resulting from the research and experimentation conducted within the project ProMed with the aim of enhancing the quality of native varieties. This participation will be an important opportunity to present to an international audience the work of our associates in the improvement of production».
During last months Maltese producers have identified the vineyards to produce grapes fot testing, taking into account the different climatic and soil conditions present on the island of Malta. The vineyards were managed according to protocols defined in agreement with the Irvos to identify the best techniques of cultivation able to improve the quality of grapes and wines. The wine-making were carried out at the experimental winery in Marsala. Then the Irvos technicians selected nine wines that will be presented in Verona. They are: a Chardonnay from vineyards situated in Malta Center, a Girgentina wine made with grapes grown Siggewi Center, a Vermentino and a blend of Chardonnay and Girgentina, two Syrah (one from the South of Malta and one from Gozo) two Gellewza (one from Burmarrad and one from Old Mgarr) and a Blend of Old Gellewza Mgarr - Gellewza Burmarrad.
«This year the main protagonist of our participation ad Vinitaly are vines and lands - states Dario Cartabellotta, past director of Irvos -. Through the 17 areas of Sicilian viticulture will be possible to discover the identities of Sicilian wine and go back to appreciate the relationship between wine production, culture, traditions and landscape. And if we add to the territories of the islandMalta and Gozo, we will be able to present a longer route that has the Mediterranean soul as its unifying element».
