The dissemination activities will move to Malta

The MRRA organize a seminar on the state of play of the Promed Project which will be held on the 19th of September, at the Malta Bird Park, Kennedy Grove, St Paul’s Bay at 16.00 hours.

The first seminar of the project will take place in Linosa

The "Zibibbo of Linosa" will be the star in the first seminar organized under the Promed project. During the meeting, which will take place tomorrow in the square of Linosa researchers will describe the agronomic and oenological results achieved during the first year of experimentation in all the territories involved and especially on the island of Linosa.

The CSEI Catania will present the work in terms of research on agronomic techniques to improve the production and sustainability of the wine of the smaller islands of the Mediterranean and will present preliminary results on the implementation of geographic information systems (GIS) for the islands of Linosa and Pantelleria.
The Irvo and the University of Malta will illustrate the agronomic aspects in the management of systems trees with particular reference to areas under vines in the islands of Linosa, Pantelleria, Malta and Gozo.
The seminar will conclude with the presentation of some of the experimental wines produced during the first harvest, which will be offered for tasting. Among these, two wines obtaine from Zibibbo grapes grown in experimental vineyard in Linosa "Chaplain", a dry wine and a dessert wine.

Vinitaly 2012

The Institute of Regional Wines and Oils of Sicily decided to dedicate a booth in Hall 2 - Sicily (stand no. 169 lane I) to present the results of the project and taste some wines produced during the last vintage.
During the event Irvos technicians with representatives of the Ministry of Rural Resources of Malta and of VitiMalta have had the opportunity to explain the project activities to an audience of producers, journalists and visitors and to propose to taste nine wines, four whites and five reds, all produced from international and native grapes grown in the islands of Malta and Gozo.

Public presentation of the ProMed project

The project “Protection of the environment in Mediterranean Islands via the valorisation of grape cultivation” has been presented last July, at conference hall of the Archaeological Museum Baglio Anselmi inMarsala.
The meeting with journalists was attended by Dario Cartabellotta, Director of Irvv, by Sebastiano Messineo, Regional Minister of Culture and Identity Sicily, Elio D'Antrassi, Regional Minister of Agricultural and Food Resources , Daniel Tranchida, Regional Minister of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, Juanito Camilleri, Rector of the University of Malta, Salvatore Barbagallo, General General of the Department of Infrastructural Interventions in Agriculture - Department of Agricultural and Food and Felice Bonanno, General Director of Department of Planning - Presidency of the Sicilian Region.
The special guest was the Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs of Malta, Mr George Pullicino, who stressed the importance of this project for the development of the islands Mediterranean.

36th World Congress of Vine and Wine

Viticulture experts, researchers and technicians from all around the world are now in Bucharest, Romania, on the occasion of the 36th World Congress of Vine and Wine organized by OIV.
The conference was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of the Director General of the OIV, Federico Castellucci, and of the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Daniel Constantin.
In the beautiful location of the Palace of the Parliament until June 7 they will discuss about vine, models of viticulture and winemaking techniques.
From Georgia to Spain, from Moldova to Turkey, they will share the agronomic and scientific research conducted in various fields to investigate the origin and varietal identity, the best systems to fight diseases that attack the lives, the protection of the ecosystem. They will also discuss about the new scenarios that affect the quality of wine and winemaking and aboutthe markets and the consumer, with surveys of trends, perceptions and appreciation of wine.
Sicily in represented at the Congress by the Regional Wine and Oil Institute (irvo), which received a positive opinion for 10 posters and two communications.
One of the posters is dedicated to the
ProMed project and in particular to the activities carried out in the two years of research to obtain the ampelographic characterization of two maltese grape varieties Girgentina and Gellewza - according to the official OIV methodology.
