National congress MASSA 2012

National Meeting "Massa 2012" will be held in Palermo from 1st to 5th July 2012 on the occasion of 40th anniversary of institution of the Division of Mass Spectrometry of the Italian Chemical Society (DSM-SCI); it is an international symposium where will be invited all italian experts which work on mass spectrometry field together with several outstanding foreign specialists.
The conference will address many topics including: innovative techniques of analysis; environmental; quality control; food, nutraceutical, food safety and traceability.
The Regional Institute of wine and oil has presented a poster on the use of GC-MS for the analysis of grape skins aromas of two native maltese grape varieties: Girgentina and Gellewza

During the Simtrea Congress a focus on yeast found on maltese grapes

The Regional Institute of wine and oil, as lead partner of the Promed Project, attended the National Congress of the Society of Agricultural Microbiology, Food and Environmental (SIMTREA) which was held in Bari form the 26th to the 28th of June.
During a special session entitled "Microbiology of Wine and table olives in the Mediterranean Environment", Irvo has presented a poster summarizing the research done on grape products during the 2011 harvest. The technicians analyzed a total of 16 samples produced with both native and international grapes (10 red and 6 white) focusing on populations of yeasts found therein.

the 35th World Congress of Vine and Wine

The Promed research reaches Turkey for the 35Th World Congres of Vine and Wine, ended on June the 22nd.
Focusing on the themes of diversity and sustainability in the vine and wine sector, world experts debated the issues related to biodiversity, innovation, traceability and consumers’ quality and health expectations regarding vine-based products, especially table grapes and raisins, in the famous city of Izmir or Smyrna, whose name is inextricably linked to grapes.
As leader partner of Promed, Irvo took part in the conference to present the results of the project Promed.
More specifically, the works presented have focused on the study of the polyphenol composition of the skins
from the two most important grape cultivar in Malta were studied - Girgentina (white grape) and Gellewza (red grapes) - as well as chemical and sensory characterization of wines produced from native and international grapes grown on the islands of Malta and Gozo.

Promed on stage at Chimalsi 2012

The ninth Italian Congress of Food Chemistry.CHIMALSI) was held in the town of Ischia (NA) last June, from the 3rd until the 7th.
The conference represented an opportunity for discussion between scientists and production companies involved in food, herbal, pharmaceutical in order to investigate issues relating to the characterization, analytical techniques and technological transformations of functional foods and nutraceutical components as well as their effects on human health.
The Regional Institute of wine and oil of Sicily (Irvo) as leader of the project wanted to attend the congress in order to give greater prominence to the achievements of Project. During the congress Irvos technicians have presented a poster summarizing the main results obtained during the first harvest of experimentation with particular reference to the varietal characterization of two indigenous Maltese grape varieties: Girgentina and Gellewza.
